A preliminary coroner’s report to the Natchitoches Police Department on Antonio Francisco, 28, who was discovered in the Cane River on Monday has indicated the cause of death was drowning. Fairview Alpha Elementary School preschool teacher Crystal Pierce received the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence, one of the nation’s most prestigious honors for public educators. Pierce, shown with husband Madison Pierce, attributed her abilities as a teacher to her husband’s support and the assistance of coworkers, friends and the parents of her students.  “One person doesn’t teach a child everything they need to know. It takes everyone working together to achieve that goal. I am so grateful for the support of the many parents and my paraprofessional for their cooperation and support that allows the children to succeed."

Northwestern

LSU-S Chancellor Dr. Larry Clark, BPCC Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman and NSU President Dr. Jim Henderson signed agreements that will allow students to jointly enroll in BPCC and either NSU or LSU-S.  The agreement helps students who intend to pursue a four-year degree make the best use of their time and resources.

MidSouth Bank renewed their commitment to the Northwestern State University Founder’s Circle by contributing $1,000 to the NSU Columns Fund, a tax-deductible giving program that supports academic endeavors, scholarships and building renovations.  From left are MidSouth Business Process Manager Clay Abington, Community Outreach Officer LaCarsha Babers and City President Rhonda Jones with NSU Development Officers Tiffany Chasteen, student Adrianne Vallee of Boyce and Jill Bankston. Vallee is a junior majoring in social work who represents the many NSU students who benefit from scholarships supported by the Columns Fund.
