Northwestern State women earn first ever outdoor title

For the first time in Northwestern State women’s track and field program history, it took home the outdoor team title, thanks to the team’s bread and butter. Down by a half a point to rival McNeese with one event remaining, NSU relied on its signature event—the 4x400 relay—to take home the title, similar to what happened to win the 2023 indoor title.

Soggy field is ‘home, sweet home’ as game called after 7 innings

A soaked field that needed all hands on deck to make it playable proved to be home sweet home for the Northwestern State baseball team Monday afternoon. After working the field into playing shape, the Demons turned in a complete performance to salvage the final game of a three-game Southland Conference series against New Orleans in run-rule fashion, defeating the visiting Privateers, 13-2, in seven innings.

‘Best of the Best’ high school athletes honored Saturday

The “Best-of-the-Best” awards ceremony that honors Natchitoches Parish senior high school athletes, Natchitoches Leadership Through Athletics Committee (NLTAC), has a new component to this year’s awards celebration. The Committee has partnered with Raising Cane’s Restaurant and Super 1 Foods (University Parkway location) to allow residents to VOTE for their favorite senior athlete from Lakeview, Natchitoches Central and St. Mary’s high schools May 16 during regular business hours at both establishments. One can vote during each visit.

Northwestern State drops heartbreaker to Tigers

A two-run home run in the eighth inning made the difference for Northwestern State in Tuesday night’s game at LSU. It was the Demons’ inability to break through early that ultimately proved the toughest hurdle for NSU to overcome in a 6-5 loss at Alex Box Stadium.

HOF Foundation hopes to boost funds for facility upgrades

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation, boosting efforts to generate funds to support its museum in Natchitoches including technology upgrades at the 11-year-old facility, will participate in “Give for Good Day” to complement its fund-raising initiatives.

Giving Day 2024 set for May 15

The NSU Athletic Department has set May 15 as its annual Giving Day as a way to assist its studentathletes’ success on and off the field. Fans can make a donation to the summer academic progress fund or directly to the sport of their choosing and can do so in one of three different ways.
