The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced funding for performing inventory of lead service lines and lead service line replacement through the Infrastructure and Investments Act signed in Nov. 2021.

Two personnel items were discussed at the Parish Council meeting April 15 with one moving forward and one not. The first proposed ordinance that will be considered allows Parish Government to hire past employees who were previously terminated.

The City Planning and Zoning Department will host a meet-andgreet session May 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Natchitoches Events Center Director Shontrell Roque said at the City Council meeting Monday.

Spring cleaning just got a whole lot easier! The Natchitoches Parish Library (NPL) is bringing back its highly requested Community Shred Day, perfect for getting rid of old files and disposing of confidential information after tax season. On Friday, April 26, from 10 a.m.to 2p.m. the NPL Main Branch located at 450 Second St. will be equipped with an industrialstrength mobile shredding truck available for public use, free of charge. This service is available to everyone, and businesses are included.

In the late fall of 2023, The Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Foundation conducted a second comprehensive community health needs assessment following a similar assessment in 2017. They partnered with Stratasan to collect, quantify, and interpret data from community focus groups, an online survey, and a community Summit on Health.

Natchitoches Lions Club recently attended the 2024 Louisiana State Lions Club Convention held in Alexandria. The state’s official title is Multiple District 8, which includes all clubs in Louisiana. Lions from across the state gather to participate in learning sessions, to be recognized for their efforts throughout the year as well as to present donations to the numerous projects supported by Lions. Officers for the upcoming year are also selected during the weekend’s events.

Northwestern State University will honor the Class of 1974 during the class’s Golden Jubilee celebration May 9-10. The program will include the presentation of 50-year diplomas, receptions and other events to honor the class and graduates from previous years.

The 2024 Natchitoches-Northwestern State University Folk Festival is seeking volunteers to join the fun and experience the festival from within. Every year the festival relies on volunteers to help with the various components such as providing security and other positions as needed. Volunteers will work inside air-conditioned Prather Coliseum and will be needed from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday July 20.
