Allen Murphy’s Appliance Center, 2411 Garden Lakes Blvd., has been serving Rome’s home appliance needs for 28 years the store opened on Labor Day in 1983 and has operated out of the same Garden Lakes Parkway location for almost 28 years.
Allen Murphy had worked for several appliance companies through the years before de-ciding to open his own shop. The location across from Garden Lakes Realty was a strategic decision since Garden Lakes was continuing to grow and at the time, was considered one of the largest residential subdivisions in the entire state of Georgia.
His children, Terry Murphy and Tammy Williamon are also directly involved in day-to-day operations of the business.
The store carries a complete range of refrigerators, stoves and ovens, microwave ovens, washers and dryers and the like. “You pretty much name it and we’ve got it,” said Greg Ir-vine, store manager.
Many of the company’s appliances has been original equipment in new homes constructed in Rome over the 28 years since the company quickly developed a solid reputation for both sales and service with most of the homebuilders in Rome and across the Northwest Georgia area.
Remodeling work has been our saving grace over the last few years, said Irvine. Property owners who have been in their homes have shown a willingness to upgrade appliances over the last few years.
A dedication to service has long been a hallmark of Allen Murphy Appliances. “We ser-vice everything we sell,” Irvine said. Most of the staff at Allen Murphy has been with the store for many years. “Customer satisfaction is very important and it’s a lot easier when the customer can talk to the person they originally dealt with when they bought the appliance years before,” said Irvine.
He said that the sales and service staff attend classes virtually every year to make certain they stay up to date with new products that are being offered. “We take a lot of pride in product knowledge,” Irvine said.
