Votes in the second semifinal, spotlighting outstanding individual performances, were casted on NSUDemons.com and on the @nsudemons Twitter account in a 48-hour window until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.
The two remaining semifinalists are Keelie Arneson, whose outstanding season was a key to the volleyball team's success; and Justin Walker, who all by himself earned NSU 20th place in the NCAA men's team standings at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships by scoring 11 points in two events.
Advancing to the finals was the NSU volleyball team's best season ever, including 21 wins, a second-place finish in the Southland regular-season standings, and a charge to the Southland Tournament finals, where the Lady Demons fell just three points shy of making their own NCAA appearance, which would have been a first in the history of the program.
It moved on despite a 54-46 percent disadvantage in voting on NSUDemons.com. That went in favor of the Lady Demon basketball team's tremendous turnaround season that carried NSU to 21 wins and the NCAA Tournament.
Adding in the Twitter results, the volleyball team notched 55 percent of the votes cast.
Walker had a sensational week at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., with his efforts pushing NSU into 20th place in the national team standings. The senior sprinter was third in the 200 meter dash and fourth in a school record 10.12 in the 100, scoring 11 points for the Demons.
Walker's NCAA excellence will be matched against the outstanding volleyball season by Arneson, who was the Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year in her sport after winning Southland Libero of the Year honors as the Lady Demons posted their best-ever campaign.
