Drew Green, the 2013 Kansas Player of the Year, signed to be a member of the 2015 Northwestern State baseball team, announced head coach Lane Burroughs and staff on Tuesday.

The 5-10, 205-pound catcher and infielder was named as the best player in his state after junior season by the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches when he hit for a .442 batting average and knocked in 15 runs.

“We are excited that Drew has to become a Demon, and join the family. He is touted as one of the top hitters in the entire state of Kansas,” said Burroughs. “He has tremendous power from the left side, and has real knowledge of the strike zone and his swing.”

The native of Lawrence, Kansas, was a two-sport star at Lawrence High School with all-league honors in both football and baseball. Green was a three-time all-league vote, and twice he was a first team selection in baseball.

He was also an all-league selection in football his senior year.

“He has a level of toughness that we are looking for in our players,” said Burroughs. “He’ll add a dimension that we need with real power from the left side. We expect him to come in and vie for a spot immediately.

“Drew was a really good football player on a good high school team, and comes from an athletic family,” he said.

He is the son of Joyce and Darren Green, and has two brothers (Dorian and Justin) and two sisters (Brandi and Jessi).

His father was a football player at Kansas, and brother was a basketball player at Colorado State.

Green lettered in football and baseball for four seasons, and played one season of basketball.

He graduated from Lawrence with a 3.0 grade point average and was a member of the LHS Honor Roll.
