Prudy had four hits in as many at-bats Wednesday night when NSU (3-1) lost at Louisiana-Lafayette. Before ULL, the Demons swept Grambling State in a three-game weekend series by scores of 11-5, 6-0, and 8-7.
Texas-Pan American played a four-game set against Southland Conference foe Texas A&M- Corpus Christi. Pan American won the first game 7-1, but lost the final three by a combined score of 20-8.
“We need to go out and win this series,” said first-year head coach Lane Burroughs. “We're going to treat this just like a conference weekend, and I know they (UTPA) will too. We're looking forward to competing against them.”
Projected starter for the Demons is Joey Parrack (1-0), who pitched opening day for NSU. He threw three innings and allowed one run on three hits, one walk, and four strikeouts in a no decision.
“We know we have a good Friday and Saturday starter,” said Burroughs. “Parrack and (Robert) Baker did good for us last weekend and we're looking for the same thing out of those guys.”
Sam Street (1-0) is expected to get the nod for the Broncs. He was the opening day starter as well giving the UTPA eight innings of work and allowed only one run on six hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.
Purdy leads the Demons at the plate with a .500 batting average and three doubles in his nine hits. Will Watson and Toby Cornejo each lead the team with four runs batted in.
Riley Goulding has the highest batting average (.538) for the Broncs while Will Klausing and Derek Hagy lead the team in RBI with three each.
After the three-game set, Northwestern State will open a 14-of-15 game road swing that starts with Texas A&M at 6:35 on Tuesday.
