The Northwestern State track and field teams will compete in two separate meets this weekend with about 20 athletes heading to the prestigious 86th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and a handful of Lady Demons taking part in Texas State’s Bobcat Invitational.

The Texas Relays, held at Myers Stadium, is a four-day meet that will Saturday while the Bobcat Invitational is set to begin on Thursday and conclude on Friday.

The Longhorns’ annual meet is expected to draw competition from across the nation and world among the high school, collegiate and professional ranks.

Demon veterans Justin Walker and Kendal Taylor will lead the men’s sprint group as they compete in the 100m dash. They join freshmen Hanoj Carter and Gabe White and junior Karllis Perry as possible members of the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.

Triple jumper Wayne Douglas and long jumper Emmanuel Williams should put up solid performances for the Demon squad as both rank nationally in their respective events. Douglas, a senior, stands at 11th with his mark of 50-06.25 while Williams is eighth after leaping 24-08.50 at Louisiana Tech two weeks ago.

Sophomore Brent Giddens qualified in the 110m and 400m hurdles for the second consecutive year with season-best times of 14.95 and 56.49, respectively.

NSU will also run in the 4x400, 4x800, and sprint medley relay.

The Lady Demons qualified in seven events this season, including three for thrower Janae Allen.

Allen, a senior, has been a dominant force in the shot put, discus and hammer throw this season, never placing worse than third in any of her events. She leads the conference in the discus, ranks third in the hammer throw and is fifth in the shot put.

Angelica Kotun and Keshira McKnight met the qualifying standards in the 100m dash, entering times of 12.33 and 12.63, respectively.

Quiana Griffin will act as the lead off runner for the women’s 4x400 relay team, joining Constance Seibles, Madison Morton and either Kotun or Karensa Ellis.

NSU continues its Texas road swing at Stephen F. Austin’s Skechers/SFA Alumni Invitational next Saturday in Nacogdoches.
