Eagan named to college football list

Northwestern State sophomore three-way threat Ed Eagan, who had a kickoff return for a touchdown as a true freshman last season, has been named to the College Football Performance Awards FCS Kickoff Returner Watch List.

Eagan is among 34 kick returners around the country's Division I FCS ranks to make the CFPA list. Earlier this summer, Demons' junior tight end Corey Simmons made the CFPA Watch List at his position.

Eagan dashed 82 yards through a Sam Houston State coverage unit for a kick return TD last season. He also got in plenty of action at cornerback, and after the Demons hired Jay Thomas as head coach in the offseason, Eagan spent the last few days of spring practice drilling at wide receiver and caught a 49-yard touchdown pass in the 24th Annual Joe Delaney Bowl spring game.

"Ed is an explosive player so it makes sense for us to make an extra effort to get the ball in his hands," said Thomas. "He's very good in our secondary but he will make other teams nervous returning kickoffs, punts and when he lines up at receiver."

Eagan, a 5-11, 182-pounder from New Orleans-Holy Cross, averaged 23.5 yards on nine kickoff returns and also had 14 tackles and forced a fumble last season.
