Northwestern State University’s Practitioner Teacher Program (PREP) is underway. PREP is the summer-intensive alternate certification program leading to Louisiana teacher certification in one year. The program theme, “Be all you can be…TEACH,” reflects this year’s “boot camp” format.

University faculty and K-12 teachers and school leaders have partnered to present the course modules, covering instructional methods and strategies, assessment and classroom management. The PREP cohort also received professional development training on the Common Core State Standards, the Compass teacher evaluation model and technology integration by representatives from the State Department of Education, Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana (A+PEL) organization, and Region VI Center for Assistive Technology.

The 14 members of the PREP cohort will begin teaching this fall in various school districts in North and Central Louisiana.

For more information about PREP, contact Ramona Wynder, instructor of education and Transition to Teaching facilitator, College of Education and Human Development at (318) 357-4058 or e-mail wynderr@nsula.edu.
