The second weekend of the fall tennis season will be productive for the Northwestern State Lady Demons, who will send most of their top returners to the Razorback Classic in Fayetteville, Ark., while three freshmen and veteran Amy Williams compete at the Ragin' Cajuns Fall Classic in Lafayette.

Standouts Polina Konop, Tatiana Larina, Natalya Krutova and Daniela Simonova will represent NSU in Fayetteville. They all helped the Lady Demons reach the NCAA Tournament last year.

"This will be very tough competition with three of the teams having been ranked in the top 25 nationally last year," said Lady Demon coach Patric DuBois. "Our returners and experienced players will get to see how they fare against some of the top players in the country."

Competitors from Auburn, Memphis, Tulsa and Arkansas will line up against the Lady Demons in Fayetteville in a three-day tournament. Auburn and Tulsa joined NSU in last year's NCAA Tournament field.

In Lafayette, the field includes Arkansas State, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, Mississippi State, New Orleans, Nicholls State and Southern Mississippi. Competition is set Friday and Saturday and possibly extending to Sunday if rain stops play.

Williams, a Leesville product, will lead NSU into the UL-Lafayette-hosted event as freshmen Aliona Ladutska, Kateryna Piatakova and Petya Simeonova make their Lady Demon debuts.

"Our new girls are looking forward to their first collegiate tournament experience and it will be nice to have the leadership of Amy Williams this weekend," said DuBois. "The freshmen have all looked good in practice, but playing in competition will certainly be different. We will see how we handle our nerves and the transition into playing against competition other than our teammates."

Next weekend, NSU will host its own Lady Demon Fall Classic Oct. 11-13 at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
