The American Volleyball Coaches Association has chosen Northwestern State, along with 622 other programs, to receive the Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 season, an honor the Lady Demon squad has received for the second year in a row.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

NSU is one-of-three Southland Conference members to be honored, and just one-of-two is the state of Louisiana.

“We’re extremely proud of our student-athletes to bring home this award once again,” said Lady Demon co-head coach Hugh Hernesman.

The Lady Demons put up a 3.49 GPA overall along with naming 12 members to the Fall 2012 SLC Commissioner’s honor roll. Jessica Guittierrez and Mackenzie Neely were among those with 4.0 averages.
