Boys & Girls Clubs of El Camino Reál hosts one of Natchitoches’ most popular fundraisers April 18 at the Natchitoches Events Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 6 p.m.

The Steak & Burger Dinner benefits programs and services offered by the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Camino Reál.  Area businesses and citizens have already reserved their tables, but tickets and sponsorships are still available.

Chairman Peggy Braxton, a Boys & Girls Clubs of America Jeremiah Milbanks honoree and Outstanding SE Regional Board Member of the Year winner, had arranged for the winningest coach in the Southland Conference, NSU men’s basketball Coach Mike McConathy to be the keynote speaker but it fell during the same week that NSU was heading to the NCAA tournament. So the dinner was rescheduled.

This year’s event also features a presentation Charlsie Coker, widow of the club’s founding member, the late Dr. Sam Coker.

There will also be presentations by club members coached by NCHS cheerleader Kathryn Wiggins; and members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; and NSU Work Study employees.

“This event continues its goal to reinforce that all our children matter — that their ideas and dreams are important and meaningful, which is why we do what we do at the Boys & Girls Clubs for our Club Members every day.  With this year’s event’s speakers and presentations, I hope it will prove to be one of the most successful in our Boys & Girls Club’s history,” said Eliza Behrendsen, chief professional officer.

Tickets are $40/prepaid or $50/at the door, per person and sponsorships range from $250 to $1,500.  For reservations or for more information, call 352-6268, Braxton at 357-1400 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. or Behrendsen at 318-332-9116.
