The annual convocation ceremony welcomes incoming freshmen and marks the beginning of their college career. Northwestern State President Dr. Randall J. Webb, the President’s Cabinet and department heads will participate in full ceremonial regalia with guest speakers introducing the new students to university history and traditions. The event is the university’s official start of the new academic year.
Northwestern alumnus Dr. Tait Martin of Tallahassee, Fla., and student-athlete Jake Bryan of Pollock will be speakers.
Martin, a native of Cut Off, has worked as a communication and marketing strategist for nearly 20 years, helping groups ranging from international corporations and government agencies to local nonprofits and college student organizations focus their outreach messages, build stronger relationships and develop programs that enhance their image. Martin is president and CEO of The iNSiGHT Cooperative, an international network of researchers and professionals who help organizations better define their communication and marketing approaches. In addition, Martin is an affiliate professor of social marketing and research in the Department of Family and Community Health at the University of South Florida and he is on faculty at the Florida Prevention Research Center.
Martin currently serves on the national board of directors for Theta Chi International Fraternity. He is a former fraternity chapter president, Interfraternity Council president, Student Activities president and Freshman Connector.
Bryan, a graduate of Grant High School, is a tight end for the NSU Demon football team. He is pursuing a degree in health and physical education and was a Freshman Connector this summer.
The Convocation will be streamed on-line at nsula.edu.
