Student wins Dodson scholarship

Olivia Martzell of Covington is this year’s winner of the Orland Dodson Memorial Scholarship presented by the Shreveport Journalism Foundation. 

The scholarship is awarded to an upper level student from northwest Louisiana pursuing a degree in mass communications.  Martzell is a junior in the Louisiana Scholars’ College at Northwestern State University majoring in liberal arts with a concentration in fine and performing arts focusing on journalism.

 Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at 2.5 and at least 3.0 in their major. 

They must also submit a 250-word essay on “Why I want to pursue a career in journalism.” 

The Shreveport Journalism Foundation was chartered as a nonprofit corporation in 1984 and is dedicated to promoting excellence in journalism through scholarships and professional development.
