Job description: I teach applied euphonium/tuba, brass method classes, pedagogy/literature classes for low brass, sound recording/music technologyclasses, direct the NSU Euphonium-Tuba ensemble, and coordinate recital recordings in CAPA music area.
Why I like working at Northwestern State: My professional interest has always been music as a means of two-way communication, expression and appreciation. As a teacher, I try my best to help students to see the music beyond notes and rhythms and help them to express what they feel with sound. If there are technical problems preventing them from doing that, we will work together to overcome the problems. At the School of Creative and Performing Arts, we have such a wonderful faculty who work together to help students to climb up to the next level of musicianship. I can always ask my colleagues for their opinions on students’ problems, or ask for opportunities for studying and playing in different genres of music for their further musical growth. As a performer and researcher, my primary interest is to enrich the way of expression and the musical vocabulary for my instruments; euphonium and tuba. NSU has given me so many opportunities and support to explore the new sound and new compositions and to share them with an audience. I feel so lucky to share this whole musical experience with my wonderful students at NSU Euphonium-Tuba studio and study music with them every day.
