Name: Lori L. LeBlanc

Title: Counselor, Tutoring and Disability Support and Instructor in the Department of Language and Communication

Years at NSU: 7.

Job description: I coordinate Academic Tutoring Center services, working with NSU’s tutors to help promote learning and student retention by helping students make better grades. I am establishing online tutoring via WebEx for NSU’s growing online student population, and I am working on offering supplemental instruction sessions for some of the university’s gateway classes starting in the fall. I also assist Catherine C. Faucheaux as a counselor in Disability Support and continue to teach composition and rhetoric to freshmen.

Why I like working at Northwestern State: Northwestern State is a place where students can mature academically and personally, and I enjoy watching that exciting trajectory. It makes me proud of our students to see this growth.

Another thing I like is that NSU is small enough to support our students with many helpful services and contact hours in and out of the classroom—faculty and staff care about students’ personal and academic success.

Northwestern State is progressive, innovative and growing in its online teaching efforts, which is really exceptional, and it’s fun to be part of that fruition. Most importantly, listening to student presentations at Research Day, attending CAPA and athletic events, partaking in food prepared by our culinary arts students, talking with SAB and SGA members about how they want to improve our campus and student life are the things that make our campus vibrant and engaging. Within these campus events is where I get to see the students excel and exceed all expectations. Their efforts and excellence have caused me to feel honored to be part of Northwestern State.
