Years at NSU: 25
Job description: Faculty member in the Department of Health and Human Performance teaching undergraduate courses in: freshmen orientation, first aid and CPR, motor learning, apprenticeship in health and physical education, methods of teaching secondary school physical education, pre-internship seminar and supervision of student teachers. I also teach graduate courses in: facility design and event management in sports and a pre-internship seminar. I advise 200-250 students in health and physical education and pre physical therapy. I am also a certified track and field official and am the starter for NSU and Southland Conference championships and the LHSAA Cross-Country Championships and official scorer for NSU men’s and women’s basketball. I serve as executive director of the Louisiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, a professional association with 1,200 members.
Why I like working at Northwestern State: NSU is a small school atmosphere with a long and rich history of preparing the best health and physical education teachers/coaches in Louisiana and the southeastern United States. I have been afforded the opportunity to be involved in academic administration at the University, as well as to serve in leadership positions in the state, district, and national professional associations.
I enjoy working with the students and truly an honor to be a part of their professional growth. It is an incredible journey, as we watch them grow, develop and mature to adulthood, from freshmen to graduation, and then become a professional in the community.
It is also enjoyable interacting with students in non-academic settings, especially in athletics, intramurals and other campus activities, because it gives me an additional opportunity to see them outside the classroom and gain another perspective of their future life as a professional in our fields.
The faculty and staff are outstanding to work with, and the campus and community are outstanding settings that cannot be matched in Louisiana.
