Chrystal Woodard has been named Director of Student Financial Aid at Northwestern State University. Her appointment has been approved by the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.

“I am delighted to welcome Ms.Woodard to Northwestern State,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Lisa Abney. “I think the students, faculty and staff will enjoy working with her. Her background and skills will bring some new ideas and practices to the Office of Financial Aid. Our goal continues to be to provide excellent service to our students.”

Almost 5,700 Northwestern State students received some form of financial aid this academic year.

“Financial aid plays a key role to students and the college by providing the means to an education that may otherwise not be possible,” said Woodard. “In today’s economy, more and more, students are relying on financial aid to achieve their educational goals. Our office not only supports many students financially but we also help them make responsible financial decisions. A college degree is one of the most valuable and rewarding investments an individual can make and it is our goal to ensure our students succeed.”

Woodard previously worked in the Dallas County Community College District as district financial aid coordinator and associate director of financial aid at Richland College. As district financial aid coordinator, she managed transmittals, calculations and disbursements of financial aid which included monitoring compliance issues, assisting with the implementation of policies and procedures, and reconciling financial aid programs. She was involved in resolving discrepancies in conflicting information in federal, state and local financial aid and calculating student eligibility for financial aid.

At Richland College, Woodard assisted and managed overall operation of the Financial Aid Office including monitoring compliance issues, assisting with the implementation of policies and procedures and reconciling financial aid programs. She assisted the director of financial aid and acted as a point of contact in the director’s absence. Woodard supervised full-time counselors and monitored performance and schedules. As associate director, Woodard awarded loans, grants and scholarships based on student eligibility, counseled students and resolved escalated issues.

A graduate of Louisiana Tech, Woodard worked in Tech’s financial aid office as a counselor for three years. She worked as a writer/editor/technical support person at FAS Accounting Services in Ruston then was in customer care/administrative support at J.P. Morgan Chase in Monroe.

“As the director of financial aid, at Northwestern State University, my hope is to facilitate building strong interdepartmental relationships and awareness,” said Woodard. “Closing communication gaps and cross-training will not only assist in the understanding and importance of each department but it will also create a higher level of customer service for our students.”
