Doris Whatley is the inaugural recipient of the Parks’ Spotlight Teacher Award. Her main reason for choosing teaching as a profession is her love of children. According to Whatley, “I liked school and I remember the special teachers who encouraged me. Because of these reasons, I wanted to share my love for learning with students and to encourage them to do their best so they will be successful in life as well as in academics. The thing that most keeps me teaching is the wonderful feeling that I get when my little ones’ faces light up because they have learned something new!”
