Gary and Louise Lirette delivered a compelling presentation to the Natchitoches Rotary Club on the aid delivered by Haiti Mission Inc. to the small Haitian town of Jeremie and the difference it has made to this struggling region.  Back from his ninth visit, Gary provided history and background on this poverty stricken area and the key role played by Rotary and Louisiana fundraising to address the challenges resulting from the catastrophic earthquake that created a lack of food, medicine and shelter.  Current efforts focus on providing clean water, schools with a lunch program, agriculture and farm support, construction and economic development.  Gary indicated that this western tip of Haiti, separated from the rest of the country by  high mountain ranges, has been largely neglected by mainstream relief, and that gifts to Haiti Mission Inc. and the American Red Cross are the best ways to support these efforts. For more information on their mission, go to www.haitimissioninc.com. Supt. of School Derwood Duke recognized principals of Top Gains Schools during a board committee meeting Tuesday. Each school will receive $8,453 from the State as rewards for exceeding their growth targets on accountability testing. From left are Lakeview Principal William Hymes, NSU Middle Lab Principal Ben LaGrone, Duke, Natchitoches Magnet Principal Julee´ Wright and Natchitoches Central Principal Dale Skinner.
