The Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for the grand opening of Premium Pawn, at 140 Keyser Ave. The owners are Cole and Jyll Lucky and the managers are David Levy and Adam Levy. St. Mary’s School announced its Students of the Year for 2012-2013.  Kaitlynn Bedgood earned the recognition for the high school level, Mary Hannah Hendrix for the middle school level and Mary Anna Scruggs for the elementary level. The criteria principal Phyllis Scott and a community committee used to select students included academic achievement, leadership skills, writing skills, extracurricular activities and having at least a 3.5 grade point average. The students will compete against other students at the Diocesan level and possibly the district and state levels. From left are Scott, Bedgood, Hendrix and Scruggs.

The date of 12/12/12 which was Wednesday, had special significance for many,  auspicious by some, doomed by others, and just plain easy to remember by many. Wednesday was last numerical date for almost another century. The next time the three numbers will align will be Jan 1, 3030 or 1-1-1. But for Rita Bernard Elkins, it was her birthday. Rita is the daughter of the late Hugh B. and Vernonica Bernard. She and husband Don Elkins have three daughters, Marti, Lisa and Allison. Rita and Don are long-time Natchitoches residents.
