Lisa Wiggins spoke at the monthly meeting of the Master Gardener Association at the Arts Center. Wiggins, who is the librarian at NSU Elem. Lab School, described the garden that her students developed during the last five years. There are 12 classes with 300 students participating in the research, preparation, plant maintenance and harvesting produce from the school’s garden. Wiggins uses the garden to teach students about the possibility of growing their own food and the importance of healthy eating.

 David Broussard Jr., airpark development manager for the England Industrial Airpark and Community provided the Natchitoches Rotary Club with an update on the park master plan and current economic development activities.  He noted that airport has completed nearly $20 million in projects that include ramp repairs, a new fuel farm, and a new access road. The interstate highway, rail and water access as well as a strong workforce will help draw major industry to the site.  The site also includes office and warehouse facilities, a golf course, hotel and restaurant, an education complex, retirement community and general housing.  This mixed-use development is located on 3,000 acres. housing 60 business, employing 2,000 persons, and operates on self-generated 9 million dollar budget.  This facility is a major economic driver for the region and creates more than 2,000 direct jobs.  Additionally, the airpark provides key support services for both Ft. Polk and the LA National Guard.  He closed with questions and a invitation to everyone to visit the facility and include United, Delta or American airlines in their travel plans.  From left are Broussard and  Rotarian with the program Tommy Melder.
