The La. Sports Hall of Fame Museum is getting ready for its grand opening June 30. La. State Museum Interpretive Services Director Whitney Babineaux said crews began installing exhibits last week. The 27,500 square foot museum will display over 450,000 pieces of sports memorabilia and exhibits created by Thinc Design of New York City, the firm that developed the Museum of Jewish Heritage exhibits. NSU Middle Lab Student Council will host the Canines on Cane River Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m.- to noon on the Downtown Riverbank Stage. There will be a dog show featuring available dogs from Natchitoches Humane Society, Hope for Paws and Natchitoches Animal Control Shelter. Student Council members will sell human and dog treats as well as cat and dog baskets. St. Mary’s students participated in National Kick Butts Day March 20. This day was dedicated to educating students about the dangers of tobacco use. Cynthia Brown visited Laura Hogg’s 3rd grade class to create fleur de lis canvas paintings with the students. Students integrated art in their literature lesson on Louis Armstrong. Singer-songwriter K.J. Reimensynder-Wagner composed a song about economics with NSU Elementary Lab third graders. NSU Elementary Lab students and faculty were visited by singer-songwriter K.J. Reimensynder-Wagner, also known as KJ Smiles. She collaborated with each class, gathering information generated from students on topics regarding agriculture, creating custom songs and lyrics.Song titles included “Eggs and Chicks,” “Helpful Garden Critters,” “What is a Honey Bee?,” “Economics,” “Seeds on the Move” and “Photosynthesis.” She also hosted a teacher workshop about utilizing this strategy in stimulating cognitive development in young learners. Farm Bureau’s financial support made this project possible.

St. Mary’s School enjoyed the afternoon at the Ingram’s Roselawn home. The children enjoyed Easter treats, dying eggs, playing with live bunnies and hunting Easter eggs.
