Early voting continues at the courthouse until Tuesday, Oct. 30, except Sunday. On the first day of early voting, 794 Natchitoches Parish residents early voted at the courthouse and more than 256 voted by mail. “On Tuesday, we voted as many people as Bossier did,” Registrar of Voters Deborah Waskom said. “It’s exciting.” From left are Waskom, Deputy Registrar Brenda Ellzey and volunteer Tammy Raynes. The Natchitoches Humane Society mascot Gizmo is hoping pet owners will take their pets to the Halloween pet costume and pet photo contest Saturday, Oct. 27 from 2-4 p.m. at Tractor Supply. Registration will begin at 2- 2:45 p.m. with photographs being taken from 2-3:45 p.m. Costume judging will begin around 3 p.m. Awards and gifts will be given to winners of various categories. Grand prize-winners will be given the opportunity to ride on the Natchitoches Humane Society’s float in the Christmas Festival Parade Dec. 1. Gizmo will sign autographed pictures for the children.

Robert Carnline’s eighth grade Louisiana Studies classes at Natchitoches Magnet have been learning about Louisiana Culture. Students explored elements of Louisiana culture and shared with other students. During the week of Oct. 8, students created Louisiana Tourism Posters, went to the National Center for the Preservation of Technology and Training to learn about the American Cemetery and took a walking tour of the cemetery while participating in a scavenger hunt. At the end of the week, students created their own Louisiana Festival T-shirts.
