The Natchitoches Parish Veterans and Memorial Park committee met Friday, April 5 to recognize those donating benches to the park. The benches in the plaza area will be dedicated to the five branches of the military. From left, L.J. and Trent Melder stand behind the bench they purchased in honor of “The Melder Band of Brothers.” J.T., Trent and L.J. Melder were in the Navy during World War II, J.C. Melder was in the Coast Guard during World War II, Eddie and Joe Melder were in the Army during the Korean War and Harold was in the Army during the Vietnam War. The bench was dedicated to the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard.
