The Natchitoches Central High School nationally award winning Orchestra will present its Christmas Concert today, Tuesday, Dec.11 at 7 p.m.  in Magale Recital Hall. The concert will be performed to raise funds for the Natchitoches Central High School performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In conjunction with the NCHS Orchestra the Magnet School String students will give a Christmas presentation beginning at 5:30 The 48- member High School Orchestra will perform at Carnegie Hall Monday, April 1, 2013.  The estimated cost of the trip is $60,000. St. Mary’s students collected food items for the News Channel 5 Christmas Cheer Food Drive. The school donated the food to the Food Bank of Central Louisiana, which will distribute it to low income families within the parish. The schools collecting the most food at the elementary, middle school and high school levels will receive $500. St. Mary’s principal Phyllis Scott says that if St. Mary’s were to win, the school would donate the money to the local soup kitchen. From left are St. Mary’s students Carter Hogg and Jenna Sklar.

The Natchitoches Rotary Club hosted Linda Curtis-Sparks, director of the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission who provided an overview of the many attractions found in Toledo Bend Lake Country, a short drive to the west. She sighted the many festivals, great fishing on the186,000 acre lake, the 36 resorts and marinas including Cypress Bend Golf Resort and Conference Center and Wildwood Resort, and a growing number of retirement properties, plus four area state parks.   She works with Natchitoches tourism as many of their visitors will make their next stop here.  Also, Sabine and Natchitoches participate in the Explore Louisiana North effort to promote regional tourism as well as the El Camino Real Trail Association Partners. The Natchitoches Rotary Club honored Brian Kim, LSMSA senior, as the Student of the Month.   Dr. Pat Widhalm, LSMSA executive director, introduced Brian as an outstanding leader and scholar.  His accomplishments include resident of the student government, the academic honor of Graduation with Distinction and player on the basketball team.  Brian was joined for the award by his father, Dr. Kioh Kim, a former Rotarian.  As Student of the Month, Brian received a check and plaque from the Rotary Club as well as a bag of merchant gifts presented by  Rotarian George Rhymes. Cortney Cavanaugh presented a scholarship and gift bag from Northwestern State University.
