Twenty-seven St. Mary’s School juniors were inducted into the National Honor Society, which serves to honor those students who’ve demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. Northwestern State University awarded an Nth degree to Natchitoches businessman Johnny Antoon at halftime of Saturday’s Northwestern State – Sam Houston football game. Antoon, a 1968 graduate of Northwestern, has helped numerous NSU students pay for their college education by providing them with jobs. The Nth Degree is given in recognition of unselfish devotion to duty and the willingness to go the “extra mile” in meritorious service to mankind.  On Wednesday, November 7, 2012 flags were placed on gravesites in the American Cemetery to honor veterans.  The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 10 purchased American flags to put on the graves of veterans in the American Cemetery. The NSU ROTC, preschool students from NSU Marie Shaw Dunn Child Development Center, and NSU FACS Students assisted.  The group placed about 40 flags throughout the cemetery.  In photo anove, a group of students, parents, teachers and auxiliary members assembled for the Pledge of Allegiance, meaning of flag and poem about  Veterans Day.

A little before 9 a.m. Monday, a semi-trailer truck hauling logs overturned on Campti Cutoff. The unidentified driver was heading northwest and lost control after taking the curve near Blewer Family Farm Road. The cause of the accident is unconfirmed, but there were no other vehicles involved. According to law enforcement officials, without the support of sidebars, the semi-trailer could have flipped multiple times.
