The St. Denis chapter of the DAR decorated a patriotic tree and patriotic wall located at the downtown City Bank lobby. The tree has 200-300 stars with veterans’ names, color-coded according to their military status. Red symbolized active veterans, white deceases veterans and blue living veterans. There is also a plaque commemorating those in the armed forces who have died in the past year. The Veterans Day tree will be displayed until Tuesday, Nov. 13. Health care providers participated in the Natchitoches Parish Council on Aging Health Fair Nov. 5. They provided information about services for seniors, such as Medicare/Medicaid enrollment, Medicare/Medicaid fraud, ombudsman services, elderly abuse, domestic violence, cancer treatment, medical supplies, in-home health, assisted living facilities, veterans administrations services, elderly legal services, mental and physical therapy and hospice services. The following healthcare professionals provided vision, hearing, blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, flu shots, hearing phones, smoke detectors and door prizes: Choice and Change, Lincare, Legal Services of North Louisiana, Hospice of Natchitoches, Cenla Area Agency on Aging, New Horizons, Natchitoches Assisted Living, Prism, Shipp, Wal-Mart Pharmacy, Causey’s Pharmacy, Harmony Home Health Care, Natchitoches Fire Department, D.O.V.E.S., Synergy, Natchitoches V. A. Outpatient Center, Community Care, Thompson Home Health, Project Celebration and Woodcrest Home Health.

Banners and signs are displayed throughout town reminding everyone to take their children for fun, learning and free books  at Reading on the River Saturday, Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. until noon on the riverfront. Children will get to enjoy a wide variety of fun-filled activities based on books. They can participate in activities including decorating cookies, visiting authors and illustrators, eating family-friendly lunches and getting a free book for kids through 8 years old.
