The student athletic trainers at St. Mary’s organized fund raising events for the American Cancer Society as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  This week their “Paws for a Cure” activities included selling pink awareness bracelets and promoting a blue jean and pink day at school Friday.  They are encouraging everyone attending the St. Mary’s football game Friday to wear pink.  Funds raised from the bracelet sales, blue jean day and donations at the game will be given to the American Cancer Society.  From left are Taylor Roberts, Cancer Society community representative Lindsay Maggio McElwee and Abbey Martin.

The International Paper Red River Mill demonstrated their support for local veterans with a $1000 Gold Level Sponsorship donation to the Natchitoches Parish Veterans and Memorial Park Project to assist in the park’s construction. “We can never do enough to honor those that have fought for our values and freedom,” Red River Mill manager Matt Barbour said. Committee co-chair Bob Gillan was grateful for the contribution and explained how the park will be a welcome home and thank you for veterans.
