Dr. Shane Rasmussen, director of the Louisiana Folklife Center at NSU, provided the Rotary Club with an entertaining preview of the upcoming Natchitoches/NSU Folk Festival  July 20-21.  The theme of the festival is “Celebrating Louisiana’s Folk Music,” and will be hosted at the Prather Coliseum.  The weekend is headlined by Ray Abshire, honorary festival chair, and the three stages of packed music offerings include a wide range of Louisiana sounds along with the Louisiana State Fiddle Championship in Magale Recital from 1-4 p.m. Saturday.  Crafts will be on isplay from 8-5 Saturday.He closed with a special invitation for families to take their children for the ever-popular Kid Fest  Saturday.  A weekend ticket is $11 and is only available in advance by calling 357-4332 until Thursday at 6 p.m. After that tickets are $5 for Friday or Saturday evening or $8 for an all Saturday pass.
