Castor Baptist Church’s “Fishin’ for a Mission” bass tournament had such a great turnout. There were 38 teams. Colton Guin and Ron Hathorn won first place, Terry Wayne Holland and Jackie Matthews won second and the Big Bass cash prize of $500, and Paul Richardson and George Alamond won third.
The first place winners of the Ashland Beauty Pageant April 16 at Lakeview High School are: 0-2 Boys, Devontai Johnson; 3-5 Tiny King, Tristan Johnson; Baby Miss, Rockell Roque; Tee Nincy, Asia Steward; 2-3 years, Riley Malmay; 4-5 years, Cailyn Kay; 6-7 years, Emma Berry; 8-10 years, Katelyn Yopp; 11-13 years, Priscillla Harrell; and 14-16 years, Gabby Lewis. Ms. Ashland Spring Festival is Melinda Sambalda.
Here are a few dates to remember if your child or grandchild attends Goldonna Elementary. The athletic banquet is at 7 p.m. May 3. All athletes and cheerleaders may attend with two adult guests. Be sure to RSVP.
DARE graduation will be May 10 at 1 p.m. The junior high prom is May 14. Photographs will be taken from 6-7 p.m. and the prom will begin at 7 p.m.
I want to invite everyone to come out and enjoy our festival this weekend. We will have gospel singing in the Community Center Friday from 7-9:30 p.m. We will have local talent to perform for us.
We will kick Saturday off with a parade at 10 a.m. The homemade ice cream making contest will be at 11:30 a.m. and the cakewalk at 12:30 p.m. under the pavilion. The cost for cakewalk tickets are $1 a piece, or 5 for $4. The magician Rob Jenkins is scheduled to perform at 1 and 3 p.m.
If you have children, bring them out to enjoy the pony rides that will be there from 2-6 p.m. And to finish the day out, come dance to the live music of Southern Remedy. We will also have a $200 treasure hunt. The clues start at noon, so don’t be late. We ask that you bring your own lawn chairs.
Our pavilion project is nearly complete. There are a few electric things that need to be done, but the building is complete. We will have a ribbon cutting April 30 immediately following the parade. We are expecting Sen. Gerald Long, Rep. Rick Nowlin and contractor Ralph Whitley to be at the ribbon cutting.
Don’t forget to tune in Friday night to CMT’s Next Superstar and watch Steven Clawson, Bobby and Faye Watts’ grandson, perform. You can follow the show and Steven’s performances and biography on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CMTNextSuperstar.
This week, it’s outlaw country week, and the remaining seven contestants meet with a famous choreographer to work on their performances. The contestants will be performing at a rough-and-tough biker bar.
Bar patrons will decide the fate of the seven contestants and another one will be sent home. The guest judge this week will be Kenny from “Big and Rich.”
In last week’s episode, contestants were surprised with a rude awakening early in the morning to complete a radio interview. The only time Steven performed on the episode was during the interview with Cody Alan. He sang a song he wrote himself called “Nobody Knows.” If you have missed any episodes, you can go to the CMT Web site and watch previous episodes.
If you are anything like me, you enjoyed your Easter Sunday. After attending church Sunday morning, the kids enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt with the family along with wonderful food.
The weather was beautiful, and as we all know, the weather usually turns nasty on Easter Sunday. Wherever you and your family were, I hope you had a fantastic Easter Sunday like our family.
Bobby and Faye Watts will celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary April 30.
