Northwestern State’s softball complex renovation project got a big lift as Bank of Montgomery President Ken Hale presented a $40,000 contribution to NSU Athletics Director Greg Burke during the NSU basketball doubleheader at Prather Coliseum Jan. 17. From left are Burke, Lady Demons seniors Paige Cavallin and Kylie Roos, assistant coach Amy Hooks, head coach Donald Pickett, Hale, assistant coach Amanda Locke, Ragan Hale, BOM vice president and branch manager Lyn Christophe, marketing director and Assistant Vice President Carrie Beth Hough and NSU softball seniors, Brooke Boening and Jordan Palmer.  The renovations are expected to be complete in late March, more than a month before Northwestern hosts the Southland Conference Tournament. Chair-back seating in a partially-covered grandstand, a new press box and a new concession stand are included in the $466,000 project supported by private gifts and student fees designated for improvements to NSU Athletics facilities by the student body. Burke said chair-back seats and additional donations are being solicited.

Northwestern State University administrators examine a few letters, photos and receipts from the Egan Collection housed in the Cammie G. Henry Research Center.  The Center recently received a $200,000 bequest from the estate of Edward Myers Egan, a descendant of Dr. Bartholomew Egan, a physician and educator who served as surgeon general of Louisiana during the Civil War.  From left are Brad Laird, director of University Advancement; Abbie Landry, director of NSU’s Eugene P.
