The St. Mary’s Lady Tigers struggled offensively in a 44-37 win against Stanley Lady Panthers Thursday night. The Lady Tigers scored only 15 points in the first half and had 11 turnovers. The Lady Tigers came out in the second half with relentless defensive pressure, which led to a lot of easy fast break lay-ups. Jackie Clark led the Lady Tigers with 12 points and several key rebounds late in the game. The Lady Tigers trailed 24-21 but went on a 14-2 run between the end of the third quarter and the first few minutes of the fourth quarter to pull out a 35-26 lead. Coach Johnny Cox was not pleased with his team’s effort in the first half. “Stanley came out hungry for a win. We got out-played the first half playing a full-court man, but the second half we switched to a half court set that allowed us to control the game.” The Lady Tigers made free throws late in the game to ice the Lady Panthers shooting 21-32 (65 percent) as a team. Sadie Simmons had 11 points, Camille Lott had 8 points and Faith Stanfield had 7 points. The Lady Tigers will play Bolton High School Jan. 3. at home
