Montgomery, a five-term state representative, will be inducted along former Pineville Mayor Fred Baden, former Congressmen F. Edward Hebert and Jerry Huckaby, former Louisiana Speaker of the House E.L. “Bubba” Henry and longtime Alexandria Town Talk editor and columnist Adras LaBorde. Baden, Hebert and LaBorde will be inducted posthumously. Montgomery joins 11 other Northwestern State alumni in the Louisiana Political Museum’s Hall of Fame.
The induction banquet will be at 6 p.m. on Jan. 28, in the Winnfield Civic Center, at 2000 S. Jones St. in Winnfield. Tickets for the induction ceremony and banquet are $50 each.
Montgomery served in the legislature from 1988 until 2008. After graduating from Northwestern State in 1959, he taught and coached for 10 years winning two state championships in 1968 and 1969. He was assistant principal of Haughton High School from 1970-1982 and served as principal from 1983-1988. The Louisiana Association of Educators named him a “Distinguished Legislator” in 1989.
Montgomery was inducted into the Louisiana High School Coaches and Administrators Hall of Fame in 1991. Montgomery was honored by Northwestern with the Nth Degree in 1995. He was named to the College of Education and Human Development’s Hall of Distinguished Educators in 2002.
