NATCHITOCHES – With just five Southland Conference games remaining for Northwestern State, the Lady Demons are still searching for that win to get them over the hump and possibly make a late-season charge for a spot in the league’s postseason tournament.

But things won’t be easy for the Lady Demons (5-19, 1-10) when they host McNeese State (18-7, 8-3) at noon on Saturday in a game that will preceded a men’s Sears Bracketbuster contest against Campbell.

The Lady Demons have dropped their last seven games, the longest drought since the 2006-07 season, but can still make a run at the postseason with a string of victories. The Lady Demons are currently three games behind Southeastern Louisiana and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the win column. However, both of those teams hold the tiebreaker over the Lady Demons.

McNeese won the previous meeting 64-54 back on Jan. 21 that started NSU’s losing streak.

In that game, Trudy Armstead led the Lady Demons with 20 points while Jordi James added 13. NSU was in the game the entire time up until the end.

James is coming off a career-high 32 points, the most points scored by a Lady Demon since Tena Matthew drained 34 against McNeese State on Feb. 21, 2008. James tops the team with a 14.3 scoring average, bettering Armstead’s 13.0 mark and Jasmine Upchurch’s 12.0 average.

James is also knocking down 15.5 points in conference games only while Upchurch tops the league in SLC games in field goal shooting with a 54.6 percentage.

McNeese is led in scoring by the Baggett twins – Ashlyn at 15.9 points and Caitlyn with a 13.8 average. The Cowgirls, last year’s regular season and tournament champions, have dropped two of their last three games and is two games behind Central Arkansas for first place in the East Division.

Saturday’s game will be the second of two Play 4Kay games where the Lady Demon program will wear pink uniforms while raising money in support of the efforts to raise awareness of breast cancer. All fans are encouraged to wear pink as well.
