Joesph Siegfried, a right-handed pitcher from Springstead High School in Spring Hill, Fla., has signed to play college baseball for new head coach Lane Burroughs at Northwestern State.

Siegfried, a 6-0, 175-pound hurler, pitched in 41 innings with a 1.81 earned run average and struck out 51 batters his senior year. He led Springstead High in all pitching categories.

At the plate, he hit at a .290 clip with 21 runs batted in and 12 doubles. He led both the team and Hernando County in RBI and doubles.

“We are delighted that Joe has decided to become a Demon,” said Burroughs. “He came on very strong at the end of the spring and had a fantastic summer.”

Siegfried was named to the all-county team, All-North Suncoast Team, and was a two-time athlete of the week.

“He was a standout outfielder, but made the move to the mound and the results have been remarkable,” said Burroughs. “He can throw the fastball consistently from 85-89 mph with plus-command along with an ability to spin the curveball.

“It was truly a steal to get an arm of this caliber at this point in the process,” said the new skipper. “His make-up is off the charts and the level of toughness and seriousness is something we desperately want in our program.”

The three-year letterman was also a member of DECA, a global organization that prepares emerging leaders in business, and was an international competitor for his school’s sports marketing club three years, winning runner-up honors in 2011.

“Kudos to Coach (Chris) Curry for getting this done,” said Burroughs.
