Title: Assistant Professor, First Level Clinical Course Coordinator in the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program.
Education: Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing – Northwestern State University;
Master of Science in Nursing – Northwestern State University May 2010
Years at NSU: 2
Job description: I am responsible for coordinating the instruction of first level clinical students in the concepts and fundamentals of nursing care. My instruction time is divided between the classroom/lab and the clinical hospital setting. Students on this level are introduced to the foundations of nursing care and acquire the skills needed to provide direct patient care on this level in the clinical setting.
Why I like working at Northwestern State: Being a member of the faculty of the College of Nursing has placed me in a position to help develop the future nurses of tomorrow. We have all heard of the nursing shortages in many parts of our country. I am pleased to be able to help address that need through the work my colleagues and I do. I am encouraged when I see the students we work with gradually begin to “think like nurses” and accept the responsibilities of caring for others. I liken their transformation to caterpillars emerging from their cocoons — never again to be the same. Returning to NSU and becoming a member of the nursing faculty has been like a homecoming. I’m glad I found my way back.
