Stacey DiFrancesco and Keelie Arneson lead the red-hot Northwestern State volleyball team as the Lady Demons, riding a seven-match win streak, play their final home match of the season against top-ranked Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Prather Coliseum.

The Lady Demons (19-8 overall, 11-4 Southland Conference) rank third in the SLC standings as they enter the last week of the league’s regular season. They can post only the second 20-win season in school history with their next triumph, already having posted the first winning season since 1987 and the most Southland victories in 25 seasons of league competition.

NSU took down fourth-place Stephen F. Austin for the first time in program history last Friday, sweeping the Ladyjacks 3-0. The victory extended the Lady Demons’ winning streak to the longest by the program since 1992.

SHSU enters Tuesday night’s match at 18-9 overall and 13-2 in Southland play.

The Bearkats stand first in the conference and are coming off a 3-0 defeat of Nicholls State. NSU fell at Sam Houston 3-1 on Oct. 6.

DiFrancesco leads the Lady Demons offensively with 310 kills. Her average of 3.31 kills per set ranks fourth in the Southland. Additionally, DiFrancesco has collected 255 digs and 32 aces.

Emily Sweet also helps fuel NSU’s offensive attack, having put up 1,013 assists. She stands at fourth in the conference in average assists at 10.03.

Arneson is the defensive pacesetter with 512 digs and 38 aces. The sophomore libero is tied for first in the SLC in average digs (5.07/set) and ranks fourth in aces (0.38/set).

Sophomore outside hitter Deveney Wells-Gibson leads the Bearkats with 392 kills, 29 aces and 322 digs.

Tayler Gray and Kim Black control SHSU’s defense. Gray has collected 359 digs and served 27 aces while Black has denied 130 attacks. Additionally, Gray has put up 1,055 assists.

The Lady Demons finish out the Southland regular season this weekend as they travel to Central Arkansas for Thursday’s match and Oral Roberts on Saturday.

They are already assured of playing in the Southland Tournament next weekend.
