DeQuan Hicks led the Demons in scoring for the second straight game with 16 points and added five rebounds. Hicks, Shamir Davis (14), James Hulbin (12), Brison White (11), and Jalan West (10) outscored the entire NAIA Division I member Trojans (0-4) who counted the game as an exhibition.
HLGU scored the first points of the game when Arii Meuel scored on a layup, but the Trojans never saw the lead again. West opened the game for the Demons with a layup to start up a 25-5 run which gave the Demons a 25-7 lead just 11 minutes into the game.
Northwestern State would go into the locker room at halftime with a 32 point lead, the largest of the half. The Trojans came out in the second half and cut it back to 25, but NSU took over to win by 49 points.
For the game, NSU shot just under 53 percent from the field and held Hannibal-LaGrange to 26 percent. The rebounds were almost even with NSU (42) leading by one.
The Demons had 10 blocks in the game with O.J. Evans and Patrick Robinson each with three. NSU forced 26 turnovers and only gave it up 12 times which is the lowest of the young season.
Northwestern State used 15 players, with 12 scoring, and 10 playing at least 15 minutes against the Trojans.
The Demons travel to Baton Rouge Tuesday when they take on in-state Southeastern Conference foe LSU at 7 o’clock.
