OXFORD, Miss .– Northwestern State’s 31 turnovers against Ole Miss showed to be too much for the Lady Demons to overcome as they lost 67-51 Friday afternoon in women’s basketball action.

It was the highest number of turnovers for NSU (2-1) since it gave up 32 against Prairie View A&M Nov. 29, 2011. The Rebels (2-0) were able to score 29 points off of turnovers.

Despite the turnovers the Lady Demons shot over 46 percent from the field and were led by Jasmine Upchurch who had 13 points in the game and hit five of her nine shots.

From the three-point line, NSU shot 44 percent with Jasmine Bradley leading the way going 2-2, she finished with 10 points in the game. Janelle Perez and Keisha Lee each drained a shot from beyond the arc.

Northwestern State tied Ole Miss with 25 rebounds each. Arianne Ausmer was the game leader with six, and Upchurch and Bradley had five each.

The Rebels shot just over 52 percent from the field and were led in scoring by Diara Moore and Tia Faleru who each had 13 points for the game.

The Lady Demons jumped ahead early taking the lead less than two minutes into the game and did not let it go until the 5:58 mark when Ole Miss went on a 26-8 surge to grab the lead and hold an 11 point advantage at the half.

NSU will host Wiley College tonight at 7 p.m. at Prather Coliseum.
