New co-head coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr announced the signing of Southwood High School standout Kourtney Pennywell for the 2013-14 season.

Pennywell, a 5-7 forward, joins Robin Richardson, Breonna O¹Conner, Beatrice Attura, and Amy Staha who signed with the Lady Demons during the early signing period. Richardson, O¹Conner, and Pennywell are all from Louisiana.

Kourtney will be a great addition to our team. She comes from a tremendously successful program and has played in some big games and competed for championships for Coach McDowell," said Brooke Stoehr. "She is an extremely hard worker and competes each time she steps on the floor."

Pennywell averaged 15.7 points per game with seven rebounds during the 2011-12 season leading the Cowgirls to the state championship game for the third straight year. She won all-city, all-district, and all-state honors.

"Kourtney has the unique ability to guard both inside and on the perimeter," said Stoehr. "She has the energy and ability to pursue the basketball off the glass and score the basketball. Her versatility will be a major asset for our team on both ends of the floor."

In the 2010-11, she was named the District 1-5A Most Valuable Player and the Shreveport Times Player of the Year when she scored 14.1 points a game with 7.8 boards. She added all-state honors along with being named team captain for the first of three seasons.

As a freshman, she scored 8.3 points a game with 5.7 rebounds. The high school senior had made the honor roll every year she has attended Southwood.

" She is a conscientious student and takes pride in her academics," said Stoehr. "We are thrilled to welcome Kourtney to the NSU family and are excited to see her develop as a student athlete during her time in Natchitoches."

NSU will return to action Dec. 21 when the travel to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks.
