Northwestern State volleyball co-head coaches Hugh and Stephanie Hernesman have announced the addition of Bailey Martin to the 2013 Lady Demon roster.

Martin, a Lucas, Texas native, will attend Northwestern State on an academic scholarship.

“We are extremely excited that we get to finally announce Bailey’s commitment,” said Hugh Hernesman. “Bailey is a proven winner that has played on some great teams and for some great coaches.”

Martin, native of Lucas, Texas, collected 301 digs and 18 service aces as the senior libero for Lovejoy High School. The Leopards, who won their fifth straight Texas UIL State Championship this season, named Martin Lovejoy’s 2012 Defensive Player of the Year.

“For her to be a part of a championship culture is a big deal as she transitions to the next level. Her ability as a defender and passer will be an immediate and important asset to our program.

“Much like our current group of defensive players, Bailey has the ability to be a huge spark plug that will bring effort and high energy to our defense.”

Martin’s high school coach, Ryan Mitchell, agrees that her athleticism is an immense asset.

“Bailey is the most athletic kid I have had the opportunity to coach,” said Mitchell. “Her athleticism allows her to get to balls that others cannot. Her desire to be the best player on the court at any given time makes her an invaluable team member.”

Martin will play for the elite Texas Advantage Volleyball club on the 18 Black team this spring.

“Bailey will be a driven and disciplined player on the court as well as an excellent student-athlete in the classroom and in our community,” said Hernesman.
