FORT WORTH, Texas – After it jumped out to a 2-0 lead, the Northwestern State baseball team surrendered nine unanswered runs to drop a 9-2 loss to Texas Christian on Tuesday night in non-conference action.

Eleven walks and three hit batters helped TCU overcome a 2-0 deficit to post a 9-2 win over Northwestern State Tuesday night.

The second matchup of the two-game series will be played Thursday at 2 o’clock.

TCU (6-9) scored two runs in the fourth inning to tie the Demons (9-9), and scored three in the sixth inning and four in the seventh frame to overcome the early NSU’s early lead.

An errant pick-off throw sailed into right field allowing Wright to race home with the first run of the game for TCU. Kyle Bacak looped a single to left to tie the game.

Travis Evans (0-0) recorded the win on three innings pitched and one hit with no runs allowed. Andrew Adams (0-2) took the loss on five innings pitched with four runs allowed on six hits. Adams had seven strikeouts.

Northwestern State scored a run in the first inning after Nick Purdy singled to score Toby Cornejo who led off the inning on a single to left field.

The Demons added another in the fourth inning on a Nathan Lyons single through the right side to score Todd Wallace. Wallace reached on a double to left center field to lead off the frame.

The Horned Frogs answered in the fourth to tie it up on two hits and one error. Andrews struck out the first and second batters he faced, and then walked the next two. After a failed pickoff attempt and two back-to-back singles the score was a 2-2 tie.

TCU scored three runs in the sixth inning on three walks and an error, and four in the seventh on a walk, hit by pitch, and two singles.

Trey Teakell started the game for the Frogs and worked five innings and allowed two runs on six hits and two walks.

Evans relieved him and Justin Scharf came in for an inning and struck out one.

Nick Helmstetter worked one-third of an inning and allowed an unearned run. Steven Spann came in and finished out the sixth inning with no runs and one walk.

Dillion Crain and Nick Purdy worked the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Crain allowed two hits and four runs and Purdy allowed two walks.

The Demons travel to Oklahoma for a three-game series Friday and then to LSU on March 20.
