Demons baseball team loses three straight to McNeese St.

A pair of two-run extra-base hits by Michael Sullivan and Matt Williams in the third inning led McNeese State to a 5-4 win over the Northwestern State baseball team Saturday afternoon to give the Cowboys a series sweep.

The Demons (9-21, 0-6 Southland Conference) dropped their 13th straight game, and second straight league series. The Cowboys improved to 17-9 overall and 5-1 in Southland Conference play.

Both Andrew Guillotte and Chayse Marion scored on a one-out double to right center from Sullivan in the third inning. Guillotte reached on a lead-off single, and Marion on a hit by pitch.

Sullivan and Jackson Gooch scored when Williams tripled to right center to give the Cowboys a 4-0 lead.

The Demons answered with three runs in the next frame that started on a bunt single from Todd Wallace. He advanced to second when Nick Purdy was issued a walk, and both advanced a base after a wild pitch.

Brinson singled to left field to score Wallace, and Purdy scored on a sacrifice fly from Edwin Gomez. Two batters later Zack Costa hit an infield single to score Brinson from third base.

The deciding run came in the fifth inning when Williams hit a sacrifice fly to score Gooch, who led off the inning with a single through the left side.

NSU’s Matt Burns hit a home run to left field on two-strike pitch to push the game to its final score.

Andrew Adams (0-4) got the start for the Demons and took the loss after he allowed four runs on four hits and walk in 2.1 innings. Joey Parrack was responsible for the fifth run and worked 2.1 innings and gave up five hits.

Michael Clemens started for the Cowboys and pitched 3.0 innings and gave up three runs on five hits. Tyler Parke (2-0) took the win after he worked 3.2 innings and allowed run on five hits. Lucas Quary (4) got the save on a perfect inning.

A two-for-four day at the plate with three runs batted in by Hans Ask led McNeese State in a 13-hit day in a 8-5 win over the Northwestern State baseball team Friday night in Southland Conference action.

Six Cowboys each had two hits, including Michael Sullivan who had two runs batted in on the night. The Demons (9-20, 0-5 SLC) lost its 11th straight game.

Robert Baker (2-3) got the start for the Demons and took the lost on five innings. He gave up eight runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Zach Krebs pitched two inning and allowed two hits and a walk.

Blake Ware (5-1) took the win on seven innings and allowed four runs on five hits. Steven O’Bryant and Sam Peterson worked two-thirds of an inning and combined for a run on no hits.

Lucas Quary (3) got the save after coming in with two outs in the eighth inning, and finished out the game. He had a strikeout and walk.

NSU scored their first run in the game when Regan Kaufman hit a single to right field to score Nick Purdy from third base in the fifth inning. Purdy reached on a single to right center.

The final two runs came in the eighth inning when Burns scored from third base on grounder from Gomez and Todd Wallace drew a bases-loaded walk.

The Demons will return to action on Friday when the play Central Arkansas at 6:30 in Brown-Stroud Field.
