Tyler Girouard’s three-for-four day at the plate with two home runs and four runs batted in sparked the Louisiana-Lafayette offensive in a 12-0 win over the Northwestern State baseball team Wednesday night in non-conference action.

Matt Plitt (2-0) started on the mound for the Ragin’ Cajuns (25-12) and kept the Demons (11-26) off-balance in his six scoreless innings.

With a 5-0 lead, Girouard homered on a 0-2 pitch to leadoff the seven-run fifth inning. He also finished out the inning with a double to left center field to score Ryan Leonards and Dex Kjerstad.

Two batters after the leadoff homer, Seth Harrison singled to shortstop, and followed that with a stolen base and a single from Blake Trahan up the middle that scored him.

Nick Thurman singled to center field. Chase Compton reached on an error by second baseman Toby Cornejo which scored Trahan.

Thurman scored on a groundball from Jace Conrad, and Compton scored on an error from Edwin Gomez at third base.

Girouard also homered to lead off the three-run fourth inning, and Michael Strentz scored on a safety-squeeze from Thurman three batters later. Harrison scored on a single through the right side by Jace Conrad.

ULL scored its first runs on a two-run shot to left field by Kjerstad in the second inning.

Dillon Crain (0-1) started the game for the Demons and took the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits and three walks. Zach Krebs pitched one-third inning and gave up five hits (one earned) on four hits.

Gomez led the Demons at the plate with two hits and three at-bats.

The game was suspened on April 10 due to weather, and resumed Wednesday in the fourth inning. The Cajuns scored 3-0 before the weather, and added nine on the second date.
