The Northwestern State University Alumni Association will host the 31st annual Chris Roper Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday, April 27 at the Robert W. Wilson Recreation Complex.  Proceeds from the tournament fund two scholarships for students in NSU’s Health and Human Performance program and over the years has generated enough money to provide $1,250 per semester for the recipients.

The tournament honors Roper, a native of Camden, Ark., who was killed in a car accident during Christmas break in 1982.

Roper was a senior and the top golfer on the 1981 Demon Squad. He was a member of the Trans-American All-Conference team, placing ninth at the league tournament.

The tournament will begin with a cocktail kick-off party from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Sea and Sirloin on the Cane, 805 Washington St., Natchitoches. Saturday’s events will begin with lunch at 11 a.m., followed by tee off at noon.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place teams.  The tournament is a four-person scramble.  Other events include the Closest to the Hole contest and the Longest Drive.  The entry fee is $75 per player or $300 per 4-man team, which includes cost of the cart, lunch, beverages and green fees.  Participants can sign up individually or as a 4-man team.

Sponsorships are available at the $500, $250 and $50 level.
