Singing students selected for vocal skills

Five NSU students won first place at the Louisiana competition of the National Association of Teachers of Singing held at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Eleven students under voice faculty Patrick Dill, Michael Rorex and Terrie Sanders placed in eight categories.

First place finishers were Maria Hefte of Covington in freshmen women, Kallie Stephenson of West Monroe in senior women, Garrett Watson of Cleburne, Texas, in senior men, Rebekah Hall of Austin in student adult and Leonard Harris of Baton Rouge in freshman/sophomore musical theatre.

Four students received second place honors including Harris, Justin Lincecum of Alexandria in freshmen men, Emma Harrison of Thibodaux in sophomore women and Beau Voinche’ of Marksville in sophomore men.

Third place finishers were Hannah Street in sophomore women, Denzel Dawson in sophomore men and Hannah Williams in freshman/sophomore musical theatre, all of Baton Rouge.

Students and faculty also attended a master class with Mark Rucker of the Metropolitan Opera.
