The 4x100 squad, made up of Gabriel White, Hanoj Carter, Kendal Taylor and Justin Walker, crossed the finish line in a season-best 40.00 to place third in their heat and earn an automatic qualification to the semifinals in Eugene, Oregon.
“Justin ran a phenomenal anchor leg for the relay,” said coach Mike Heimerman. “They had an okay start with Gabe, Kendal and Hanoj but Justin just blazed to the finish line. They ran their best time of the season but I definitely think there is still room for improvement.”
Walker also advanced to the championships on May 24 with a qualifying mark in the men’s 100m.
Walker, a redshirt junior, advances to nationals for this first time since 2011 after turning in a blistering time of 10.33 in the quarterfinals of the 100m.
This will be Walker’s first individual appearance at the national meet as he previously qualified in the 4x100 during his sophomore season.
“We have always known that Justin was capable of this success,” said Demon head coach Leon Johnson. “It is great to see him get this opportunity.”
