Phi Kappa Phi taps select honor students for membership

Northwestern State University inducted new members into its chapter of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.  Senior level and graduate students are selected from the top 10 percent of their classes.  Junior level students are selected from the top 7.5 percent.

Northwestern State University’s Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society hosted an initiation ceremony for new members in November.  Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor society. 

 Phi Kappa Phi’s mission is to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engage the community of scholars in service to others.  Senior level and graduate students are selected from the top 10 percent of their classes.  Junior level students are selected from the top 7.5 percent.  Faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction are also eligible.

 Dr. Susan Thorson-Barnett, head of the Department of Psychology, and Dr. Darlene Williams, vice president for technology, research and economic development, were inducted as faculty members.

 Undergraduate, graduate and alumni inductees were Deborah L. Wesse of Alexandria;  Jessica Dodd, Jessica Johnson, Brittany Elise Merchant and Leeanna Michelle Smith of Anacoco;  Hannah Imlay Street and Courtney Yvonne Wilson of Baton Rouge;  Christa Joy McCann and Ashley Wall of Benton;  Fanchon Charlie Guidry of Berwick, Jonathan Thomas Rider, Karen Taylor and Ashley Marie Webster of Bossier City;  Michael Leatherwood of Calhoun, Andrea Marie Armand of Cottonport and Asha K. Edwards, Angela Nichole McKnight and Jessica Maria Orr of Coushatta.

 Also inducted were Kierra Yvonne Hayes of Denham Springs, Joseph Parker-Achowalogen Tullier of Dry Prong, Michelle Louise Good of Elm Grove, Catherine Therese Beverly of Franklinton, Rikia Ancar of Harvey, Ursula Gisele Theus and Dorcas Joy Williamson of Haughton, Abigail Layne Bass of Homer, Richelle Marrion Dorris of Hornbeck, Annette Kimball of Houma, Jacob Paul Johnson of Iowa, Megan Nicole Duhon of Jennings, Sheree Guillory of LeCompte, Dermont Demetrius Carter and Juliet Michelle Johnson of Leesville, Kristie Marie El-Khansa of Livingston, Scott Patrick Laborde of Marksville, Courtney E.
